Abstract

The genus Palpita Hübner, 1806 referable to subfamily Spilomelinae of family Crambidae is characterized by distinctive wing maculation and genitalic features. A detailed taxonomic account of four species of Palpita i.e., P. kiminensis Kirti & Rose, P. warrenalis (Swinhoe), P. asiaticalis Inoue and P. pajnii Kirti & Rose, from Jammu and Kashmir is presented. The descriptions of adult morphology, wing venation and genitalia are provided along with illustrations. A diagnostic key to the studied species is also presented to facilitate accurate identification. Notably, all four species are recorded for the first time from Jammu and Kashmir, representing significant range extensions within India. The present findings contribute to a better understanding of the taxonomy, distribution and species composition of the genus Palpita in the north-western Himalayan region.
