Abstract

Simulium (Gomphostilbia) alagarense sp. nov., Vijayan & Anbalagan was described based on adults (female and male), pupae and larvae. This new species is placed in the S. batoense species group of the subgenus Gomphostilbia Enderlein by having an antenna with nine flagellomeres, pleural membrane bare, female subcostal bare, pupal gill composed of 8 slender threat-like filaments in the pupa, hypostome bristles per side lying parallel to lateral margin in the larvae. It is morphologically similar to S. (G.) kumbakkaraiense recently described in Tamil Nadu, India.
